Serena Perrone
(Atlanta/Sicily) Serena Perrone's work spans expanded printmaking, alt photo, sculpture and installation to elicit mystery and ambivalent narratives involving place. Taking cues from literature and art history, her interdisciplinary works are unified by the use of narrative and recurring symbols, relying heavily on process, workmanship, and decoration to record instances of both wonder and trepidation when confronting the landscape and natural phenomena.
Notable exhibitions include the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis, the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, The Print Center in Philadelphia, The International Print Center New York, and Spring/Break Art Fair.
Her work is collected by prominent institutions including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, the New York Public Library, Yale University Art Gallery, the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Smith College Museum of Art, Swarthmore College, the Rhode Island School of Design Museum, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Library of Congress. She was nominated for a Pew Fellowship in 2017 and has received grants from Idea Capital, the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, the Santo Foundation, the William J. Cooper Foundation.
Notable residencies include the Flatbed Center for Contemporary Printmaking, C.R.E.T.A. Rome, the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica Venice, and the Vermont Studio Center.
Born in St. Louis, she is a dual-citizen and splits her time between the United States and Italy. A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design with an MFA in Printmaking, she lived for many years in Philadelphia and New York state before relocating to Atlanta in 2019.
She is currently the Assistant Professor of Printmaking, Tenure Track at Georgia State University and is the Director of Officina Stamperia del Notaio, an international multi-disciplinary artists' residency program in Sicily which she founded in 2015. Her work is represented by Cade Tompkins Projects, Providence, RI.
